I think it's hard to explain Afghanistan going from the top spot in opium farming pre Taliban, and returning to the top spot in opium farming post Taliban, as an unintended consequence. Like pealing an onion, the more layers you peal the more onion you find. My view is the information is part of the big picture but not "the" big picture. Do some research on Carlyle Group and Carlyle Group directors. The heroine angle ties in nicely with some of the information that's been uncovered.

How much time do you spend preoccupied with deep thoughts about heroin addiction to the exclusion of other matters? I hardly think boosting the heroin trade so that ponderings on the issue of addiction will confuse and befuddle us lowly masses was any consideration in Britain's decision to join in the war.
