I agree and disagree, Mike. I think the less intrusive presence argument makes a great deal of sense but in another month or two or three. Right now basic services need to be restored. That's not only the US responsibility by virtue of the role they took in sponsoring the invasion but it's simply good common sense if they wish, long term, to alter the view of the US in the Arab world.

Right now we appear to be not delivering on basic services while simultaneously threatening Iraqis that they best not pick leadership that's averse to US interests. Sounds like precisely the wrong formula. Hopefully, this is all early mistakes.
