Who do you think the PNAC people have on tap for Powell's replacement? The Prince of Darkness himself? Hmm, no idea. At least seriously. They have their own plant in the State Dept, John Bolton. And, apparently, insisted that Bolton get the NK job but lost. As for any serious thought about Gingrich and some sort of conspiracy, I doubt it. Arguments that it's more about Gingrich's need for centerstage make sense to me. The intriguing thing is Hunt's comment that (a) Rumsfeld had to know, given their good buddy status, and (b) would Rumsfeld now have to dump Gingrich. No doubt, G stepped over several lines. And the Bush folk punish disloyalty. Extremely. So we'll see. I expect Powell to resign after the 04 campaign if Bush gets reelected.
