I learnt (hard or easy way, does not matter) people do things for their motives, not mine. Usually. I mean always. What's important is, what in the game for me (win-win, win-lose, lose-lose, and of course can I keep out of the game at all).

Of course it's rather ... unproductive, to be too open and direct in stating your own motives. Except when stating the default motive ie for the good of all people (ng). That's filtered out right away by majority of addressed.
