Point #1 is preposterous. There are many iraqi points of view and other agencies that will be aiding iraq besides the american army.
Point #2 is ludicrous.
Suffice it to say for #2, is that if saddam had destroyed his wmds that the UN claimed he still had pre-1998, why didnt he forestall the american attack by explaining how they were destroyed? What fantasy awaits us now in answer?

With every passing day, it looks more and more like this was one huge lie, a deliberate lie that every member of the U.S. Administration engaged in

I have been waiting for you to come up with that line, Jacob. Think about the size of the conspracy involved, and the desire of everyone in the cospiracy to blab, and you will realize how unlikely the concept is.

The Galloway story is interesting in its own right, and deserves some discussion.

As for hearts and minds, that is a serious story whose outcome can properly be judged a couple of years from now. It hardly needed a rocket scientist to predict that there would be a power vacuum when Saddam fell, and the Shi'a clerics, no fools, are trying to make the most of it. I doubt very much the attempt caught anybody in the Pentagon by surprise, though perhaps they didn't anticipate the strength of it. Having the liberation coincide with the Hussein festival was very convenient for the clerics.

As for WMDs, rest easy on that story. They will turn up. Everybody agrees that the Iraqis were good at hiding stuff, and it sounds like they made a concerted evidence to destroy evidence at the last minute. Their records will show what they were doing. But this kind of forensics can't be done in a minute, and the army still has other matters - like Syrian fedayeen and security - that take higher priority.

During the war, NPR reported that troops had found missiles filled with mustard gas and sarin. Has anybody seen followup on that story?
