DAK,

Regarding federal income taxes with regard to the lower wage earners...

My accountant was telling me about how many wage earners get back more money in income tax refunds than they paid in. With various credits, such as earned income, child care, etcetera he had many clients (some in the not-as-low-as-one-might-think brackets) that this year, qualified for more money back than they had withheld in taxes. In other words, the federal income tax program has directly become yet another way that politicians have devised to transform a revenue program into a quasi-welfare program. Being the skeptic that I am, I checked out what he said, and he's right. So whereas I used to feel as you do regarding low wage earners, I'm now more in Pezz's corner, which is a statement that not everyone is paying his or her fair share of income taxes. We have one political party to thank for this situation, but in the interests of thread peace, I won't mention which one.
