Would it have 'negative' carry costs of $80 a week for gas?

Of course not. The SUV's would be garaged in special banks with a carefully controlled oxidation rate.

Ford's stock would soar to $1000+ as they now manufacture the nations currency in addition to the nation's immediate vehicular needs.

1 SUV (Toyota) worth 1000 ozs of gold. 1 SUV (Ford) worth about 650 ozs gold.

If the Arabs don't like the exchange rate they can always wander around the desert on camels -g-

Opps! But they own the oil .. darn!

speaking of newly minted stuff, has the Liberty Dollar been discussed yet? I happened to run across some stuff about it -- it has a 1/10th silver backing, roughly. libertydollar.org

There are actually a few businesses that accept it in Washington State. Also I ran across an article about the State of Nevada printing up $50 [edit: $50 million] of it's own money partly in order to challenge the Federal Reserve:

There's Disney Dollars already, but if P.T. Barnum wants to print some for their circus, they'll have to come up with an alternative to the naturally named "Clown Buck." <g>
