"Teddy Kennedy was the weak kitten in the litter, never able to measure up to his brothers. The accident at Chappaquiddick displayed his chronic immaturity. One problem Teddy has always had was keeping it in his pants - even when other people are around."
- Cleo O'Donnell - wife of former Kennedy campaign aide.

- Chappaquiddick has been called "the most brilliant cover-up ever achieved in a nation where investigative procedures are well developed and where the principles of equal justice prevail, at least during some of those moments where people are watching."

- The mysteries of the case continue to haunt Ted Kennedy as well as the authorities who investigated them. Charges of ineptitude and lack of diligence abounded, as did insinuations that the machinery of justice crumbled beneath the power and prestige of the Kennedy family. George Killen, former State Police Detective-Lieutenant, and chief of a never-revealed investigation, lamented that the failure to bring the case to a satisfactory conclusion was "the biggest mistake" of a long and distinguished police career. Senator Kennedy, he said, "killed that girl the same as if he put a gun to her head and pulled the trigger."

- Less than a week after the accident at Chappaquiddick, the Oregonian (Portland, Oregon ~ 7-24-69 ) reported an accident in Salem, Oregon, in which a car crashed through the chain on a ferry while crossing the Willamette River. A passenger riding in the car had drowned, but the driver escaped from the car and swam to shore. The driver was charged with negligent homicide.

You might be correct on the first one about Ted Kennedy. I think the best they actually had initially was "negligent manslaughter" but it was dropped.

Fans of Teddy might enjoy this portrayal from a few years back by Neal Boortz:

"Ted Kennedy is the red-nosed boozer who left a young woman, more likely than not one of his many mistresses, to drown in a car he managed to drive off a bridge into six feet of water. Instead of diving in to try to save her, this land-bound blowfish wandered around for half the night plotting and scheming ways to protect his political career from the scandal that was sure to follow. It’s clear that he later used his considerable political pull to escape and avoid responsibility for the fatal incident."

The death may have been accidental, but it was Teddy's accident, and a young woman died.

As I said, no proof, and your reasoning does not begin to meet the threshold of probable cause.

War is not a sporting event. One is always calculating the cost vs the benefits. I wish that Hitler had been stopped before he was a formidable opponent, likewise Tojo.

The stock market was in free fall before he was elected.

I am glad that he was running on a good nights sleep.

The recession was a logical consequence of the bursting of the high tech bubble, coupled with the inevitable slowed down of an economy ridden with personal debt. In that sense,it was merely a matter of timing when it would come.

Some people got into trouble for clandestine operations during the Reagan Administrations. Calling them criminals is ludicrous.

He has had several news conferences since the war began, and has done fine.

I do not consider allies like the UK, Australia, Spain, Italy, the Czech Republic, Poland, Kuwait, Qatar and the rest, to be laughable. In fact, I consider it an honor that most of the former Eastern Bloc nations supported us, because they credit us with their liberation, to a large extent.

So you cannot prove it, you merely reassert it.

The president's approval ratings are also high, although they do not translate into voter commitment, as you point out. However, the Marist Poll is not the only game in town. Other polls show nearly 50% will vote for Bush, about 30% will vote for a generic Democratic, and the rest are undecided. Not so bad.
