I think it was originally intended for liberals and moderates. But the moderator has been courteous enough not to ban anyone simply because of their views. In fact, even though this forum is for liberals and moderates (politically) he allows conservatives to post- the only caveat being that they cannot post insults. Some of them seem unable to separate their conservative politics from the politics of invective- those people are not welcome here. But I have noticed that no one has been excluded for politics alone. However, if he wanted to exclude people on that basis he would have every right to do it- since most all the moderators on SI tend to be whimsical and unfair in their moderation with regards to someone (or at least in the opinion of someone). Further, the right wing folks seem to start innumerable threads dedicated to excluding liberals- most of which fail :-) So the exclusion of people based on politics must be dear to their heart, and so as not to be hypocrites, they must embrace such exclusions, since that would be the only non-hypocritical thing for them to do.
