There is another argument- that the US did not really need to stop the Iraqis, because their WMD or chemical weapons (what little was left, if left), posed no threat to us. We knew, when we supported Iran in the Iran/Iraq conflict that they were using gas. We knew when Rummy was kissing Saddam that they gassed the Kurds. But Iran never made a move against us, with or without WMDS. Of course you can conjecture all sorts of things- but rational people often prefer to see evidence. And there isn't much hard evidence that Saddam was planning much of anything against us.

Or should the same apply to all within that nonexisting time-interval
