Yes it is but actually it would serve long term US interests if the democracies of different regions were able to have a credible military in order to secure their regions. That was what was missing in the Middle East. No state or group of states able to check saddam. It would be nice if the europeans could protect europe, and asians take care of the NKs of the world. As a neocon by necessity, i still would like to see a world in which the US was not the only world cop. It is probably a dream to hope that. mike

I didn't say anything about an EU challenge to the US. Of course it's ridiculous to even think about it. But there is Russia, and there is the oil supply to protect. Both are greater threats to the EU than the US.
