KT ...

WinXP ..

just a few comments on your comments

I've used XP home and XP pro on several boxes, the GTW in the home office of my wife has XPhome and one of her machines that I'm allowed to use when visiting her work office uses XP pro...
her private "these are MY machines and you leave them alone" at her work office runs Win2k and WinNT.

I've crashed her home machine twice now .. and I'm fobade at penalty of slow and horrible death to do anything to it.

ok ...

here is what I did on my newest Dell WinXPhome box ..

downloaded Java from SUN (works fine)
chunked MOST of MSFT "private stuff" for now ...
messenger, msn, hotmail, etc...

and
later, after a couple of weeks using the "fully equipped XP from Dell", I'll do an fdisk, custom install and eliminate MOST every thing that I don't want .. which is a BUNCH ...

the machine will run faster and better ...

the only thing I don't care for is the MP3 decoder matter of which you spoke ..
but then, I'm not affected by that personally YET.....

XP really is plugnplay ...
and, for folks who don't tinker and change stuff, I can see where it is GREAT ...

downloads completed and scan just run ..
here I've used this machine less than a dozen hours and AdAware and SpyBot found twenty two(22) data miner cookies already embedded ...
sheeeeeeesh ..

ok .. gots to do UncleLarry's COF chart, but was waiting until the downloads/scans were done ...
