If you think that bloggers are the wave of a more populist politics, best watch out that you get what you wish for. It's a wild, wild world out there. Bloggers come in all sorts of political stripes--right and left, mainstream and not, ideologues and not. You name it. That's one of the reasons I don't seem them becoming a political force on the basis of their views. Of course your right about this, but what is clear at least to me, is that the mainstream left is over represented in media, people in the middle are looking for media which is more simpatico to their lifestyles, values etc. This bodes ill for the top down media, it will be just like talk radio, where the Left cant get traction due to its insulting elitist ethic that comes through every attempt to appeal to people. The vast middle is going to use these blogs as a way to express views in real time, to align with sites which ferment freedom from the stiffling weight of the top down press. Technology always has unforeseen consequences, once again the population most underserved by the OLD Media will migrate to the New Medium giving it the momentum it will need to emerge as a impact medium. Just like EBAY is the Surviving Killer stand alone business application from the first internet business cycle, Blogs will serve the same purpose for those looking for outlets for their own sensory organs. Welcome the fact that many new voters will be re born from this emerging trend.

You will find a veritable swamp of George Bush weblogs out there. Your "conspiracy theory" is showing, John. Will both parties try to push weblogs and get them in the news? You bet your sweet bippy the will! The net is going to be a bigger and bigger part of the elections, just like it is a bigger and bigger part of all our marketing. We are going to spend a lot of time here talking about them and quoting them. I suspect that weblog popularity will continue to follow the path of talk radio, and the most popular ones will be on the right. But I don't think you can "sell" a web like soap if people don't want the content.
