You're certainly asking the right questions, Jacob. That's why this whole thing is a 'roadmap' to nowhere.

who is going to take on Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and the parts of the PLO that don't answer to Abbas (or to Arafat)? Those groups have explicitly said they are going to coninue attacks on Israelis ... The road map calls on the PA security apparatus to take on these rejectionist Palestinian groups, but it is wishful thinking, to believe they can.

No, what's lacking is not the means but the will. Arafat still controls the guns of a 40,000 strong 'police force', if he moved to stop it, he could stop it. You think that the Israelis can't tell if the PA is really trying or not?

I disagree, Jacob. The PA can quite effectively and fast control all those it wants to control. Dahlan and co know the structures and those who issue the orders - if not those who carry them belts.

The real question will be the power struggle between Mazen and Arafat.

We'll soon know, as the opening act was late last night, by UK passport carriers.

They shot the pianist.

I didn't see the promise of a generous cash payment in lieu of the "right to return" to all Palestinian refugees to be funded jointly by the sponsors of the road map. That's the only way to turn Palestinian public opinion against violence and give the PA the guts to face the rejectionists.
