Iraq was one of the few countries who was not in debt, despite all the sanctions. This was not tolerable to the neocons. They will emerge from "reconstruction" deeply in debt and also dependant upon imported food.

I don't give them credit even for such a cynical plan - because the certain result will be a surge in radical Islam, surely not the outcome envisioned even by these nitwits. My take is that they are intent only on military success and will pull out prematurely. IMO Blair has made a disasterous miscalculation too and it has already led to changes in the political map of Europe.
