I don't thing so. Ralph was out constantly trying and doing. Always frustrated, never quiting. Alice stayed hiding in her little hovel.

Alice was the strong one in their house......

It, and shows like it were a spoof on male strength as a positive manly trait. It was very successful in effecting the conscience of America and in earning big bucks for the producers. The message unfortunately became "making men look like doofs" is profitable. Archie Bunker was equally successful, although it was focused on the middle class, white male working stiff, not just male.

Of course everyone should be able to have a sense of humor about their situation. There also needs to be a cultural message about what we expect from a person as a strong contributing member of society. All white, blue collar males do not and never did behave like Archie, or Ralph. They were meant to exemplify the extremes of ridiculuosness. It was a joke Alice...get it, a joke...maybe not.
