US citizens can only travel to where Dept. of Defense let them. The USSR was communist regime and had the same policy of not let their citizens go to places they didn't want them to go.

Wrong. U.S. citizens can travel anywhere, and this is handled by the Department of State, not the Department of Defense. Explore the link below for further details.

I'm talking about real life. Real life of real people in real life situation.

You mean like your silly story about avoiding a police car in Napa Valley? I live in Boston with a significant Brazilian population, and they seem to do just fine with patrolmen. But your fears are natural given your lack of experience and knowledge about the US (too many American movies perhaps?).

CONCLUSION: The average US citizen is force-fed information about places, and the US citizen makes his mind based on that.

Force-fed in what way? Forced to read a newspaper, forced to watch television, forced to listen to radio? I can stroll down to Harvard Square and get a Sunday newspaper from anywhere in the world. There's no state television here, especially prevalent in the Mideast.

Got to go out a bit, WS!

I worked in London and Zurich as a trading system designer for several years and would not trade the experience for anything. I could probably take your views (and many other foreigner views) a bit more seriously if they weren't so uniformly and almost rabidly anti-American. But I guess it's the cool thing to do...

Regards,

WS
