I've asked him if there is evidence that various cells within the body compete for nutrients and cell division

Yes, it's called "cancer".

It seems to me, that the society and even the whole ecosystem is functioning very much the same as you have described with the cells of a body

Except that the cells are "programmed" not to be selfish, while individuals are, conversely, "programmed" to be very selfish indeed...

However, not all sperms are egg seekers. It turns out that there are at least 3 types of sperms. The first group rushes towards the egg and builds barricades by tying their tails together.

This is news to me. I searched in Google and came up with nothing. Could you provide some links?

The second group of sperms is concerned with hunting down and destroying any foreign sperms.

How long does sperm live in the female body anyway? 24 hrs? It seems hardly necessary from an evolutionary point of view to develop a system whereby your sperm hunts down others put in place some hours before into the same woman.

:-)

What I am getting at, is that if we can see this process at the microscopic level and the macroscopic (people) level, how do we know that it does not exist at a cosmic level? How do we know that we are not part of some much greater being?

Come again? (excuse the pun! :-)

Seriously, what is the connection between competition for survival and transmitting one's genes to the next generation and the existence of a creator?

I may have misunderstood your point, but it sounds like a non-sequitur to me...
