Good points. However, bear in mind that the Church accepted that earth is not the center of the universe and that it turns around the sun only in the year 1991 :-)

That's hardly "religion changing with time", imho.

What do you think about Jewish Kosher & Muslim Halal eating practices. OK, pigs were filthy animals in those days, but that is hardly the case now, and they are still not supposed to be eaten. Etc etc...

we've had to adjust our idea of where heaven is. It's no longer up in the sky, but somewhere separate from our current physical reality.

So basically, every time its predictions have been proven wrong (like age of the earth or earth being the center of the universe), religion had to change its premises so as not to be blatantly wrong. Hoping that its followers will not be clever enough to see the about-face...

Is THIS "History's effect on Religion", then, I wonder?
