Why the US is not suited to mediate in conflicts such as the Israeli/Palestenian conflict is what you asked.

Well for starters, let us look at the comment you made "I care a sh't what the world thinks of us". This is not just your approach but it is also the approach that this Administration takes. It is because of this approach of the Administration that it failed even to get the vote of Mexico in the Security Council. There are many other reasons that US cannot be considered a honest broker.

Merely a military victory, especially to violent suicidal folks such as the Hamas and Hezbollah mean nothing. Remember that the US has yet to win against guerrilla tactics warfare. The Hezbollah like the Viet Cong engages in guerrilla warfare. So if you are thinking that US' military victory in Iraq would force the Arab nations to sit with Israel on a negotiating table just because the US tells them to, then you are mistaken.

Arafat and his terrorist comrades may be down but not out. Guerrillas need to be exterminated and not defeated. So far this Administration has drawn a blank in going after the "queen bees" (Osama, Saddam, Mullah Omar).

Shalom
