Jim,

By your post, you show you don't really expect anyone to answer. It doesn't really go with the nice closing you use.

I'm not a big fan of corporate excesses and CEO pay is a favorite reform that I'd like to implement. However, logic and common sense have to be at work even in posting.

Here you have someone who has reached the pinnacle of his career. Whether you like Cheney or not and whether you agree with him or not, it really does not make sense that he would do anything that would remotely cause the "appearance of impropriety."

Is he happy about getting his perks and benefits? I'm sure he is, but even without that he'd be well-off as VP. I'm not anti-Clinton, but look at the deals they have been able to make. Virtually bankrupt from legal fees, the book deals and speaking deals have ensured that they don't have to worry about funds.

Back to Cheney. His life long goal has been reached. He's in the history books. He's VP, many say the acting President. He will never have to worry about finances again even if he were getting zippo from HAL. (I admit that if I were he, I'd refuse any payments during my tenure but that's why I'm posting and not VP. LOL.)

Now back to the point of all this - The original post from the WSJ hinted that Cheney was being further scrutinized because of a bribe that HALiburton allegedly paid to a Nigerian after Cheney left the company.

It doesn't make sense, does it? He would have to be incredibly stupid to have anything remotely connected to the bribe. Even those who hate Cheney don't call him stupid.

Namaste (back at ya)
