My gut feel is that Ottawa is the culprit. I mean, why is Ottawa shutting down the livelihood of the East Coast people who are irking pennies out of the ocean? Why don't Ottawa simply allow nature to run its course, to fish all there is there, if there is no more, the people will have to do something else. Besides, the last time I scuba dive, I didn't see guards on the borders of the ocean floor to stop fish swimming from Japan to the Grand Banks. A few months ago, some Amercian writer living in Canada (perhaps, one of the old draft dodgers of the Vietnam war) wrote in the National Post that he sees Canada with only 50 years to go before it breaks up (don't ask me how he figured exactly 50 years - I'm not a genius as most Americans are). He may have a point. Provinces feel that they would be better off if they break away from daddy. The provinces in the West (especially Ralphy) feel that Daddy ignores them, and disrespects them. The provinces in the East get a large allowance from Daddy, however, they feel misunderstood too. Quebec knows Daddy loves her, infact, too much so she feels stifled and wants to be free and live the single life. Ontario remotely knows that there is a Daddy, but it is too busy working for a living and doesn't bother to know or talk to Daddy. Someday, there will be the big bang when the sons and daughters figure out that they dislike each other, should be on their own. Would this be the end of the world of the ex-Canadians? Not exactly. I think it may be a good thing. We'll be like Europe with its many countries. Travel a few hundred kilometers, and you're in a new country. If it's Tuesday, we must be in Brussels. Going back to the fellow who wrote the column chiding Canada for not siding with the U.S. in the Iraq war and in belittling Canada as being a nation eventually to break apart. So what?
