The truth was we were never going to win the hearts and minds of the Vietnamese, although we could burn their villages and buy their daughters in the brothels. In Iraq, we think we have already "won", when we have lost everything and accomplished little. Now the hard part begins. The White House has not done a thing to prepare the American people for what lies ahead.
