Who knows what the correct numbers on defense spending are, Peter? Surely neither you nor I nor uw. Different folks cut it different ways. Then we all use some set of numbers in arguments and never know how those numbers got generated.

I'm simply saying to uw that I assume without seriously knowing that (a) defense spending was cut during the 90s by only a small bit and not nearly enough in view of the end of the Cold War and (b) that still makes sense to me even after 9-11 because the US no longer faces large state based armies. At least not for the foreseeable future.
