Art, thanks for your further comments on the brokerage industry’s problems regarding stock research.

One of my concerns with the analysts’ research is that under current practice it is not subject to public review and questioning as are the companies’ presentations by the analyst community. The analysts are often quoted in the press or on CNBC regarding their position on a particular company without a qualified opposing position presented.

A solution perhaps would be for the SEC to establish a site for each company where all public analysts statements/ comments regarding that company are entered. Further, the company itself and investors would be able to post to that site and challenge the analysts’ comments to present balance and correct any errors of comission and omission. The analyst would also be able to clarify and support his/her comments.

As it is now, regarding Qualcomm at least, a lot of the analysts comments are inaccurate and are unchallenged, thus leaving the investing public with the lack of essential information from which to base their investment decisions.
