Eric L: You are sophisticated and very knowledgeable about such complex matters as standards.

Given that, you know well that 1x meets 3G standards. The ITU has so certified.

In Korea, the government early on set aside new spectrum for "3G" and has pushed hard for use of that new spectrum.

Interestingly two approvals were for WCDMA but the third was for CDMA 2000, i.e. 1x.

So in Korea the government has found itself stuck with trying to distinguish between current spectrum as 2G or 2.5G and new higher frequency spectrum which it labels 3G. That one of the approved uses of the new spectrum is 3G yet identical to that already in use in current spectrum and is 2.5G in Korea hasn't been noticed much since the new spectrum is yet to be put into commercial operation.

Also as you know well, Korea is using 1x EV DO in current spectrum which is 3G.

All of this is confusing at minimum to many who have not followed the complications closely.

All the 3G "to be or not to be" is a distraction. What can be done using 1x is key, not the label attached. IMO only, of couse.

What is 3G or is not in your opinion may be important to you, but it is hardly a basis for lectures to someone who thinks differently who happens to have support on his side as you cite on yours.

What 3G is is a matter of debate, perhaps equivalent to Clinton's "it depends on what is is."

This is a thread with a tradition of courtesy.

It would be great if that is maintained.

Best.

Oh, kiss my ass, Eric, you dolt. I'll post wherever I wish and read whatever I want, your pompous blather notwithstanding.

You said:

I do NOT consider 1xRTT release ZERO or GSM EDGE to be 3G

You're wrong about EDGE. I've previously agreed with you on 1x. So, stuff it, a--hole.
