Cha2,

<< So in Korea the government has found itself stuck with trying to distinguish between current spectrum as 2G or 2.5G and new higher frequency spectrum which it labels 3G >>

In 1992 Korea reserved spectrum in the WRC-1992 core 2.1 GHz band for 3G, just as administrators did across Europe, in China, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore and just as Brazil has done more recently,

<< Also as you know well, Korea is using 1x EV DO in current spectrum which is 3G. >>

You got it.

1xEV-DO in 800 MHz at SKT is considered to be 3G.

1xEV-DO in 1750 MHz at KTF is considered to be 3G.

1xRTT at either is 2.5G, just as it is in China, and just as Qualcomm and CDG originally portrayed it to be.

<< Interestingly two approvals were for WCDMA but the third was for CDMA 2000, i.e. 1x. >>

Yes. All 3 incumbents chose 3GSM WCDMA. The government mandated that 1 choose CDMA2000. LGT was odd man out. They are waiting for 1xEV-DV.

<< This is a thread with a tradition of courtesy. It would be great if that is maintained. >>

Yes it is.

It is also a thread where we discuss Gorilla Gaming theory.

We could use a bit more of that analysis and a little less blatant cheerleading.
