You're correct, but how favorable the quotes are depends upon who's looking. With respect to Eric's post and your follow-up question, I suspect that the likely differentiation would occur along the lines of daytraders and certain hedge funds (smaller orders with a time sensitivity component) gravitating toward ECNs vs. institutions (large orders with a price sensitivity component) whose manner of operation involves sending orders directly to MMs for working.
