<<"Religion is the daughter of hope and fear trying to explain the unknowable to the ignorant." >>

That last quote kind of sticks in my craw. A cute all encompassing quote, but terribly elitist, implying that unbelievers are by contrast clever or educated, rather than ignorant. Ignorance goes all around, and is not confined to religious faith. Religion is a matter of faith, and as such cannot be argued. Is it possible to have religious faith or conviction and still be "smart"?

Blaming the travails of this world on religion is in itself escapism, and an easy statement to make while overlooking a multitude of causes.
