I'll definitely give those chairmail ideas some thought. At face value, I have to agree that chairmail should be completely voluntary on the recipient's end, with the chairman having no control of who can/can't be receiving those emails.

Mary and I likely will never be able to start from square one because one of the statements you made is one she strongly disagrees with:

You both dislike promoters in disguise, and scams of course.

We both do actively dislike promoters and scams. She's more empowered to do something about promoters and I'm not unless I wanted to quit running message boards and just participate on them instead. She thinks that my choosing to run message boards is because of some kind of love of the kinds of low-life promoters that inevitably show up on them.

I hate promoters at least as much as she does. She just thinks I'm in league with them, so there's really no possibility of us ever agreeing.

Oh, and I'll agree she's much prettier than me. You and I have met in real life so you know how ugly I am. <g> I do tend to dislike people who place an inordinate amount of emphasis on a person's appearance as an indicator of a person's value, but can try to put that aside.
