Perhaps the legislatures that come under Republican control wouldn't feel the need to try to redistrict if the Democrats hadn't used their political muscle while they were the majority party to redistrict grossly in their favor.

And vice versa.

As long as redistricting remains a political process, it's hard to criticize one party for trying to do to the other party what the other party has just done to them.
