Closed national and regional systems work quite nicely. The Swiss didn't get rich in a very democratic fashion by trying to compete with the Haitians. They chose a better playing field. In the meantime, and while the Swiss have done what is necessary to protect their own, George Bush sells out the rest of America that doesn't bribe him to any sleazeball sweatshop nation. America needs to wake up to the fact that George Bush is selling us out for the best bribe on offer. Once this nation understands that concept, we can hoist King George and his royal ilk on their own petards.
