Oops, typo. Bill Sammon. The author of the fluff agitprop you posted.

Hmmm... When I see you nominated for a Pulitzer Prize, then maybe you'll earn the right to discern what it, or is not, fluff agitprop..

kepplerassociates.com

And the very fact that the very word, agitprop, is normally associated with pro-marxist propaganda, is something I find interesting. Firstly, because Bill Sammon is the farthest thing from a marxist, and secondly methinks its use on your part, betrays your own political biases.

I was discussing ICBMs. The Patriot system is best used on battlefield tactical weapons.

Which is why I provided you the link to THAAD, which uses primarily "Standard" ship-to-air missiles. And the Navy successfully tested an intercept between a Standard missile and a Minuteman missile:

Description: October 2, 1999. Sequenced video from Integrated Flight Test 3.

Description: July 8, 2000. Sequenced video from Integrated Flight Test 5.

Description: July 14, 2001. Successful test involving a planned intercept of an intercontinental ballistic missile target.

Description: December 3, 2001. Successful test involving a planned intercept of an intercontinental ballistic missile target. A modified Minuteman intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) target vehicle was launched from Vandenberg AFB, Calif., at 10:00 p.m. EST, and a prototype interceptor was launched approximately 20 minutes later and 4,800 miles away from the Ronald Reagan Missile Site Kwajalein Atoll in the Republic of the Marshall Islands. The intercept took place approximately 10 minutes after the interceptor was launched, at an altitude in excess of 140 miles above the earth, and during the midcourse phase of the target warhead's flight. This was the third successful intercept for the Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) program, formerly known as National Missile Defense.

Description: October 14, 2002. Successful test involving a planned intercept of an intercontinental ballistic missile target over the central Pacific Ocean in the Western Test Range. A modified Minuteman intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) target vehicle was launched from Vandenberg AFB, Calif., at 10:00 p.m. EDT, and a prototype interceptor was launched approximately 22 minutes later and 4,800 miles away from the Ronald Reagan Missile Site, Kwajalein Atoll, in the Republic of the Marshall Islands. The intercept took place approximately six minutes after the interceptor was launched, at an altitude in excess of 140 miles above the earth, and during the midcourse phase of the target warhead's flight. This was the fifth successful intercept--and the fourth consecutive--in seven flight tests since October 1999 for the GMD program.

I would say that, given the above, I was comparing "apples to apples"... You just don't know what kind of fruit you have in your hand...

With a 50 year track record with a real enemy, you now disregard history and say that North Korea cannot be deterred, but rather that we full belts and suspenders, both a defensive missile shield and the ability to turn North Korea into a suburb of the planet Mercury?

Raymond.. There's a big difference between deterring a nation like Russia or China who, even under Communism, acted rationally according to strategic gamesmanship. And even Kim Jong Il may prove to follow the same rules, after he finds out that he can't blackmail Bush into giving him his way...

But militant Muslim fundamentalists CAN NOT be counted upon to act rationally. And I believe that's where the GMD will prove most effective...

And if anything, what a GMD does even more, is to create high level cooperation between the the 4 great powers on the planet to maintain order and stability (US, Europe, Russia, and China).

And that can only be, as Martha would say, "a good thing"..

Hawk

All missiles have a "boost phase".. a point when they are just lifting off
