identical to the original SI, that will be a separate subscription item, included with new subscriptions, and available to existing lifers for a nominal annual fee.

Ouch. Talk about picking the prickliest to stick in our eye. Sure hope you rethink that. We all know the original should never have been messed with, and should therefore be a given -- a rock bottom obvious default option for grandparented members.

Pick our wallet with one of your other interfaces, will ya? Doing so with the original comes across as an insult.

Tanks!

Search is at the top of the list of other things I want taken care of.

Well, you have my vote for top priority.
SI is almost nonfunctional for me w/out the search feature.

I know we discussed this the other day
And you gave the estimated time frame(couple weeks)
So I'm not here to harp on the issue
But rather just let you know how painful even a few days w/out search have been.
Oh the pain,
Oh the misery!

P.S> Hope you're getting some sleep <G>

Thanks for the update. You sound well organized. I am sure looking forward to getting the old interface back if that happens. I am guessing the code monkeys at INSP must have backed it up somewhere. Maybe they'd give you a clue?

One suggestion, though I know you are hard pressed to manipulate this interface. It might be helpful to replace the current home page with the news story about your acquisition of SI as well as a few notes about how the search engine and other features are being worked on *as we speak* so newcomers to the site have a clue what's going on.

Hi Bob,

I think you're going to do a fine job managing the site.

David

Bob. please rethink your plan:
Please ensure that "Grandfarthered" ppl have 100% full access to everything until they die.

You wrote: "On the subject of subscriptions, all existing lifetime subscriptions will continue to be honored.

But, as I've said on iHub, I'm not allergic to money. And have noted lifers here saying they don't mind paying a little for continued use of the site (though that sentiment would be far from unanimous and certainly a minority view), and they and I are all aware that the pay-once, use-forever model is a real problem from a business perspective.

That's why part of my future plans for the site include ala carte subscription items. The most important example I can think of right now is that when I add a 3rd interface almost identical to iHub (in terms of look/feel and especially features) and, if possible, a 4th one identical to the original SI, that will be a separate subscription item, included with new subscriptions, and available to existing lifers for a nominal annual fee."

Bob, if it where not for ppl like me (signed up in 1995 or 1996 when SI was free) it would not have become popular and would have never been worth anything. I request that you 'grandfarther' everything for ever.... maybe you could check the number of 'grandfartherd' ppl that still post and figure some number (i guess 75%) that will never pay and then calculate what your "existing lifers for a nominal annual fee" plan is worth. My guess is lose lots of old friends, but gain $2,150 per year.

Bob, my friend, I'm sure you do not want to harm the original folks here: so don't! Grant "Grandfarthered" ppl have 100% full access to everything until they die.
