This is a tempest in a teapot.

Oh, hardly. PBS had an interesting segment on this issue tonight in which we were treated to pre-invasion clips of Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, and Bush all saying the threat was imminent and the amount of wmds was large and the US knew where they were.

None now appear to be true.

Perle was on. I think it's extremely telling that he kept trying to change the subject. Claimed they got the Al Q Saddam connection correct as one way to change it. Of course, they didn't but that was treated as a failed attempt to change the subject. Schlesinger was on. He tried to change the subject to it was only one part of the story. The panel stayed on that part. Perle claimed that the wmd story, ala Wolfowitz was only used because everyone could agree on it. That didn't work.

It's unraveling. Wonder what the next step is.

<It was never my understanding that the rationale for going to war was the imminence of attack>

Then your understanding is different from that of every person in the Bush Administration. Over and over, every day for the months leading up to war, every top official ratchetted up the fear level of Americans. They said, endlessly, explicitly, that the threat was imminent.

I can post, again, the exact quotes, with links. As many as you want. But you don't want any, right? You'd rather just forget the whole embarrassing thing, and get onto the next target on the AxisOfEvil list.

<tempest in a teapot>

You wish.
