Sorry, Liz, but laughing at your bizarre idea that "nobody supports the tax cut" is not being "defensive." You make ridiculous statements and I simply point out how ridiculous they are.

BTW, you might be interested in knowing that the first president to propose eliminating the double-taxation of dividends was Jimmy Carter. Was he just pandering to the rich?

Oh, and no, I don't agree with everything the Bush administration does or says. Hell, they don't even agree amongst themselves much of the time. Besides, I didn't even vote for him until the general election. But for you to paint getting a $350 billion tax cut as a failure because the republican senate reached that number from an original request of $700B is simply naive. Do you think all GOP members of Congress should be expected to agree 100% with each other or the White House - that they are there to rubber stamp White House policies? GOP control of the senate is marginal, anyway - it doesn't take much to swing the senate either way. Do you think Bush actually expected to get everything he asked for in the original package?

But if it makes you feel better to think $350B of tax cuts represents a failure, go ahead and be naive.
