It'll be back.

SI's email is hosted by another company. One of my contractors inadvertently redirected @siliconinvestor.com email to investorshub.com, which won't work. He's fixed it and it's pointing to the right place now, but it might take a day or two for all of the DNS caches to reflect the change.

However, it'd be best to treat SI email like it's not going to be there forever.

The plan is/was to segregate siliconinvestor.com email serving from the other infospace.com properties and either negotiate a new, separate contract with the company that serves the emails or let everyone know 30 days in advance and shut it down.

The email serving company hasn't contacted me on their own, but I went ahead and made that contact this morning.

Whether or not we keep email depends on how much they're going to charge us for it. For the record, I don't consider email a core function of message boards. It cannibalizes public/private messages to a certain extent and puts us in competition with the likes of Yahoo and Hotmail, while only being a cost item. No revenues. You can't really even call it a subscription inducement because it's available to everyone, whether subscriber or not.

I don't like paying to be another Hotmail when it's not really in our line of work.

Granted, it has features that PM's don't offer, and if it's not prohibitively expensive to keep, we'll keep it.
