FYI, there are no Vanity Fair tapes. They didn't bother recording the interview with Wolfowitz.

Trust in media keeps on slipping
usatoday.com

Public confidence in the media, already low, continues to slip. Only 36%, among the lowest in years, believe news organizations get the facts straight, a USA TODAY/CNN/Gallup Poll shows.....

Well, you assume Tannenhaus taped the conversation. The DoD transcript shows he was transcribing. Making it hard for Wolfowitz to hear him, because he was using a headset to free his hands, and he asked for the DoD transcript to be sent to him, to make sure he got it right. If, that is, you have reason to believe the Department of Defense over a journalist at Vanity Fair. Of course John, you'd prefer to believe Vanity Fair, because it's more politically acceptable to you.
