you are correct that CA income taxes are higher than TX's (there is no TX state income tax). but you are incorrect in thinking that this proves your point. the point is that CA rewards a rich person for conspicuous consumption. and by undertaxing the rich consumer, CA steals from the poor (by underfunding its schools). as a separate issue, TX should and will eventually have to institute a state income tax.
