My experience is that most of the problems in California are due to the diversity of students in California schools.

I'll go along with that one, too. Plus, the kids don't care, the parents don't care and there are behavior problems in class that you wouldn't believe. It makes me sound like an old guy to say that, but the horror stories from friends who are teachers tell me that hardly any teaching gets done because of this situation.

Marcher, I did not mean to imply that the problems were with the teachers, although I can see how my remarks could have been taken as such. I apologize! Far from it, I think teaching is one of the greatest professions and I have tons of respect for those who would go into the California School system to try to teach.

I agree with your comments. My point is that blindly throwing money at the problem will not solve it, although some programs, and teachers pay, may deserve some increases.

One area that has been hit hard by the budget cuts is afterschool sports. The afterschool sports programs made a huge difference in my life. I beleive that afterschool sports programs keeps some kids out of trouble and gives them a sense of belonging to something bigger than themselves. It does concern me that today's youth may not be getting the opportunities I had in sports.
