That can go on for a long time, but as you aver requires keeping a lot of balls in the air to maintain the pretense of credibility. Or as they are doing now, forget credibility and use the constant threat of violence.

How long? Thoughtful mafiosi in Washington already have it figured out. Imagine 1% rate on $100 trillion forced out of citizenry and the rest of the world by real and implied violence. That's only $1 trillion/year. The gov't is already wasting that much.

That means they can loot many trillions more, until the noose.
