By the way, if China starts going towards democracy, the Untied States may have to find some new official enemies.
China is already economicaly aligned with the US.

Russia quit, now kinda /maybe on our side.
Japan has lousy demographics, and buys all our bonds.
The narco-traffikers are part of the system ?

Europeans would like to play, but they are way to cheap to spend the necessary money - no fun to play with.

So certain Islamic sects and terrorists are it for right now.

I think the long term economics of the defense industry will not be good. Short term, there's land Warrior, Homeland defense , smaller more mobile forsce structure, and and Operations other than war (OOTH). Once taht stuff is build over the next 3-7 years, the only big thing left is missle defense.

The laser based missles defense will work, and there will be big push for that, but then what ?
