Isn't the US' Defense stuff the greatest of them all export products of US of A? Just look at
a) the increases in DoD budget - there's money printed for that
b) national security directive / "full spectrum dominance" / "oderint dum metuant" - there's (prevalent?) political will
c) commitments all over the world - "our security umbrella for your dollars"

OT

"By the way, if China starts going towards democracy, the Untied States may have to find some new official enemies.
China is already economically aligned with the US."

The rhetoric about China after the Hainan Island incident was interesting in light of the fact that they are purchasers of US treasuries. I think I read somewhere that all of the US military personnel when there was a boycott of Chinese goods suggested by a US congressman.

Although I agree the US has no real enemies that would require a large defense infrastructure that is not the thinking of policy makers currently in charge of US defense spending. GWB for better or worse seems to pretty get what he wants and for the next 3 or 4 years I'm sure plenty of money will be spent on defense in the US. After that things may dry up but considering how mutual funds work I don't think they're looking that far ahead. :)
