Lower taxes mean that the average person is more control of their own economic life because they get to decide how to spend the money rather then the government.

The higher debt level is an example of people exercising this control. People have the choice to borrow money and they did. The idea that no savings can be built is not true, many people just decide to buy more things rather then saving.

In the Karl Rove inspired Texas legislature new laws have been passed which restrict the health insurance people can get.

Do you have some details about this?

As for people losing their homes when they go to a nursing home, there is nothing unusual about that. The state will normally only cover the cost after the recipent has no significant assets themselves.

Thomas Jefferson must be rolling in his grave.

If he is it would be because of the size of government today.
