as you said, the key difference between the US and japan is their denial, when you fix a problem quickly the lasting effects are usually few, but when you allow a problem to fester as they have with their banks and all the bad debt and mispriced assets that they are carrying, it just multiplies into more and more problems, especially in terms of people's confidence in your country and economy

the US is also much more of a consumption economy, whereas japan is an economy where the individuals save a lot more of their income and while that may sound great for their household finances, it is the reason that contrary to the last quote in that article, we don't have to gut the supply to be prosperous here, we just need to keep improving the economy so that there is even more demand

interesting that the article cites that japan was worried about running up big deficits and as a result they pulled back from the necessary stimulus and their economy fell right back into the slump....the democrats who are fighting the stimulus that the administration wants should read that over and over
