Re bar codes: Interesting. We're starting a new initiative with bar codes. When customers mail their car payments, their payment can be tracked, assuming they use the provided envelope with a bar code on it. So, when they say the check is in the mail, we can track it and process it more efficiently.
Also, I'm aware of software now available where consumers can go the grocery store, "scan" the item and learn its nutritional information.
But the biggie is going to be electronic bill payment. All of the major banks are going to do this, Wal-Mart is doing this, I mean, everybody. I know this isn't breaking news, but electronic payments still only account for a tiny fraction of all transactions.

And just to add to that a little bit, based on what I've been able to learn, First Data pretty much has a hammerlock on that market. They're based in Omaha, I think.
