I would presume that in Muslim countries where marriages are often arranged rather than chosen by the bride, the loyalties would often be with their own family rather than to their husband.

The husband is very often a cousin, as he was in this case.

Does anybody know what percentage of marriages in the Arab world, or any subsection of it, are between first cousins? I get the impression that among Palestinian and Jordanians, it's the majority of marriages.

You may be right. And thus the problem/s. Old world vs new world. Warlords vs democracy. Tribal rule vs national laws. Internet vs nothing. And some of us wonder about the so called haves vs the have nots.....

Look at their so called leaders.

Saddam was a terrible case in point. Look at the billions of dollars in gold and valuables alone that have been found that he had carried out of the country and/or hidden. Look at the condition of the Iraqi people in most of the country.
