Ok, I'm wondering why Sun is so late into the Linux support game. Could it be that mgmt doesn't like a cheap alternative to Solaris in the arena?? Why such begrudging support?? Why is it that Sun and MSFT seem to be so reluctant to welcome Linux into the family of OS's??

The tried-and-true marketing mantra "software sells hardware" is still viable but hardware is expensive and error-prone to make. On top of that, it's getting more & more difficult to squeeze huge % gains in performance out of the chips.

Software and services are gaining in importance over hardware and everyone trying to play the game has to grapple with the issue of shareware....
