You may be right about the revised figures for wars, I am not sure. Even if so, no bellicose propensity is discernible in Republicans, historically.

The recovery is anemic, but seems to have been on track for awhile. You are right, productivity gains account for some of it. Some of it is the practical and psychological affects of the nominal loss of wealth, after people suffered a nose dive in their portfolios. I know for myself that I had counted on drawing on investments around now, and that I was loathe to do so until I had recovered lost ground. This has not stopped all spending, but it has made me more budget conscience than I might have been. The current recovery in the market will do a great deal to increase consumption and new jobs.......

Hi michael97123; Re: " "By the way, most wars were started by Democrats." -- And depressions by Republicans."

Republicans tend to get elected under conditions of (worldwide) economic prosperity. So they get blamed simply for being in office when things go wrong. Similarly, Democrats tend to be elected under conditions of worldwide economic downturns, which just happens to be the time at which leaders tend to start wars (in order to get their populations to quit worrying so much about the economy). So naturally somewhat more wars get started while the Democrats are in office.

But none of this was caused by the Presidents, who actually have fairly limited abilities to manage the economy or start wars. The people have to decide to quit spending in order to make a depression, and the President can't start a war without the American public's fairly wholehearted approval.
