Call it conceited if you will, but my take is that the world is a better place without saddam in power. The middle east is better off and the diplomatic hand of united states is strengthened now as a result.

Imagine, no invasion. Saddam in power, Iranian theocrats butchering their youth with no fear of outside reprisal. Not so now, Iranian religious power brokers know they must use a gentler hand quelling dissent.

Yes and I do believe the natives are better off now than they were before. Who in Iraq, other than baathists, are clamoring for the return of Saddam?

I guess I am conceited in my views, can't help myself. Sorry.

The lying is only one issue.
The other problem is we can't TELL if the region will be better off. If the moderate Arabs are destabilized because of this we, the US, certainly won't be better off. If Turkey moves in to annex parts of Iraq no one will be better off. If the factions begin to fight for power (which I have no doubt they will) the Iraqi people AND the region will not be better off. If an Iranian style religious state is established the region will not be better off (and the Iraqi people probably won't be better off either). The negative outcomes are far more numerous and likely than the positive- which makes one wonder how the rose tinted glasses folks manage to see only positives for the Iraqi people. Is Bush passing out Soma to the folks who support him?
